Branding Is Much More Than A Logo
Welcome to More Than A Brand! I’m here to help entrepreneurs in the DEI space demystify the process behind what a brand really is.
During my military career, I have run into a lot of misogyny and inequity, among other things. I was told that higher ranking women go into admin because they get fat, pregnant, and less competitive. EXCUSE ME. I proved him wrong, by the way.
If those things are happening in the military, they’re definitely happening in the civilian sector too. That’s why it’s my mission to help DEI coaches and consultants rebrand so that they can show up as their most authentic selves in corporate spaces that don’t have a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Hey girl.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Hey, and thank you for joining us on more than a brand podcast.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I am Lindsay Tremmel Jones, and I am so thrilled that you are joining
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:us on this journey through what branding is, what all encompasses and
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:just demystifying that word brand.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Did he give you a little background about myself?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm a mother, I'm a wife.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm an active duty soldier.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm an HBCU grad.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I am Berry dynamic.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Let's put it there.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I have walked in so many different shoes that I understand, not only technically
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:what branding is, but the importance of.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Is a brand and the importance of having a brand.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That's how the name more than a brand came along.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:What happens is oftentimes people will talk to me and they
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:would say, look, I got my logo.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I got my website.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I got my brand.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:No, you don't.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You don't boot.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That is not a brand.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:brandon incomes is so much more than the visuals and encompasses foundational work.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Some thought work.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It's just a lot.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So as we progress through these episodes, you will learn more dig deep into
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:what's the importance of having a brand.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And what does that actually mean now?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:How did I get into working with those that are in the DEI space?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Let me give you a little story.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So younger me in the military was getting prepared to go to my next
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:level, my next rank my next promotion and trying to break it down.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Cause you know, military, we speak a lot of acronyms, but I was getting prepared
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:to be evaluated for my next promotion.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:While I was getting evaluated.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You know, I got all my credentials, I got my degrees, I have all this
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:schooling and everything that I need.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I presented to a male supervisor who looks over my entire packet
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:and he says, you know what?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Your stuff looks good.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But if you get promoted, when women reach this level, you
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:guys do not make decisions.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You guys are admin because what happens is you get fat, you get overweight, you
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:get pregnant and you get less competitive.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Now let that sink in.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Yeah, that's what he said.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So I'm one of those people that I'm going to show you better than I can tell.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So instead of him and, and hon and getting what people like to say, emotional, and
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:don't you hate when people say that, get me emotional about the situation.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I said, I'm going to show him better than I can tell him.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And then fast forward to where we are now.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I ended up getting promoted to ranks from the one where I was talking to him at.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:With a nine month old baby.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So how you like them?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Apples.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:BU because the military is 1% of the population.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I understand that the good, the bad and the ugly is within the military.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And if I'm having these conversations and if people are bold enough or ballsy enough
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:to say these things, then I know that it's happening in that civilian sector.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So either behind closed doors are in open doors.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:People are saying things to people that are not the status quo or
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:the traditional face of success.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Meaning that the traditional face of success is a white CIS gender male.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So if you do not fall into those categories, you already have
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:a negative perception that has already been labeled on you due
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:to the thoughts and the processes.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:What the epitome of success has been for so long, knowing
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:that that's what's happening.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We decided to help DEI coaches because we need them in the spaces.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We need DEI organizations to step into these corporate spaces and to.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Foster a culture of inclusivity and equity.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That's why it's so important for us to help DEI coaches and organizations.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Here's another thing I want to talk to you guys about and why you should
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:get behind this mission when you're a little girl or your aunt, or when
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:your little cousin or when your.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Asian friend or your Hispanic friend or your transgender?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Cousin, whatever person that's not been traditionally viewed as the pyramid
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:of success walks into these corporate spaces and they don't have a culture
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That's going to have a toll on their mental health.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That's going to have a toll on how authentic they are or how comfortable they
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:are to show up as their authentic self.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That's why it's important for us to be able to help DEI coaches and
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:consultants to rebrand themselves so that they're showing up authentically.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And they're invited into these corporate spaces with their knowledge
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:and their power to change the way the corporations are culturally to
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:change how diverse corporations.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So how does it help you?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:How does this help your team?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:First of all, if your team is able to step in a corporate space, y'all about
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:to get to this money, let's get real.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You're about to get to the money and not only are you about to get to the
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:money, but you're about to make the world better for not just yourself, but for
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:those generations that come after you.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Women have been selling ourselves short.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Women have not been able to reach their full potential in these spaces.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Because they're not in a culture where it's important to be diverse,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:equitable, and inclusive because of that, we are shifting the narrative.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We are helping DEI coaches rebrand themselves.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So that narrative is shifted.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And that's why so important to us.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:As you listen throughout these episodes, think to yourself,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:why is it more than a brand?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Ask yourself, is this little cute logo, really what I stand for?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Or do I need to dig a little bit deeper?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Because it's bigger than me.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Thanks for listening.
